The Department of Economics has its glorious past. The department started its journey in 1957. Presently, the Department has 5 faculty members with teaching and research interests that cover a broad range of areas like microeconomics, macroeconomics, development economics, econometrics, environmental economics, financial economics, health & Education economics and international trade.

The department primarily offers two degrees in economics: Three/Four years under graduate program and Ph.D. in Economics. Admission for the undergraduate program is through the merit basis. The entry to the Ph.D. program is done as per the University Guidelines (Vidyasagar University) and  University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.
