The Department of Geography is one of the younger Departments of this age-old institution. Our Department was established in the year of 1998 with a responsibility to impart education on geography only for general degree students. The Department initiated Honours course in the year of 2001. Despite being established lately, this department has facilitated with ICT enabled classroom, developed a library of its own, and adequate stock of modern instruments for field surveys. The Teaching-Learning Process of this Department is not only limited to four walls of the classroom and laboratory but also includes inter and intra-state excursion. Every year we plan a field trip to nurture the inquisitive minds of our beloved students and to give them first-hand experience on how field-based research is conducted. Currently, eight faculty members having specializations in different branches of Geography, are engaged in the teaching. The mentor-mentee programme has been designed to address all the academic and personal problems of every student to its feasible extent. Apart from enriching students with subjective knowledge, the Department also aims at enhancing employability to the students. Special attention is also provided to upgrading computer skills and the ability to handle Remote Sensing and GIS software. Our faculty members are also involved in completely free of cost coaching classes for NTA NET, SET, and other competitive examinations to the student in both classroom and online mode. Department is also aware of its social responsibilities that extend beyond the college campus, and in this regard, we have offered our help and assistance to Vivekananda Lok Shiksha Niketan (VLSN), Faridpur, Contai, Purba Medinipur to encourage specially-abled children to pursue higher education by interacting with them and delivering lectures on successful specially-abled people from around the world. Our alumni have been recruited in faculty positions in many Schools, Colleges, and Universities, managerial positions in the travel and tourism industry, rural development departments. They are also engaged with prestigious government research institutes, environmental protection agencies, agricultural research, and other government and non-government sectors.
