Anti-ragging Cell

In line with the regulations and instructions of the University Grants Commission, Ani-Ragging Cell is formed in the college, which follows a 'Zero tolerance' policy against ragging that is a violation of Human Rights and as such is banned by the Supreme Court of India. The chief aim of the cell is to curb the menace of ragging in order to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the source of the same. The anti-ragging committee of the college has been ever vigilant to identify the sources of ragging and take punitive measures against who are found guilty of spreading the menace.

 

The anti-ragging committee has identified the following behaviours (NOT LIMITED) to be tantamount to ragging:

  1. Invectives (typically based on lookS, alleged intelligence, race and gender)

  2. Running errands

  3. Verbal abuse

  4. Non-verbal abuse

  5. Forcing one to watch pornographic pictures,

  6. Forcing one to drink alcohol, scalding tea, smoking and taking anything his/ her will.

  7. Forcing one to perform acts with sexual connotations, including homosexual acts.

 

The committee after having considered the degree and nature of ragging may suggest the following punitive measures (not limited to):

  1. Imprisonment and fine up to five thousands as per ‘West Bengal Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions act, 2000’.

  2. Cancellation of admission.

  3. Debarring from appearing in any test/examination.

  4. Expulsion of the convicted from the college.
