Department of Chemistry had started its journey in the year of 1947 with I.Sc course. In the year of 1985 the department initiated teaching of the Honours course under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University. In 2019 the department stepped one step forward towards starting of Masters’ Programme. Presently, the department comprises of efficient faculty members and well equipped laboratory facility. The last five-year data showed that a sizable amount of students proceed towards higher education including several prestigious institutions. The department always takes initiative in organizing several seminar and conferences to make a wide auditorium including students and faculty members familiar with the cutting-edge research. Besides, the departmental students are instrumental in arranging different cultural as well as value-based activities. At present, the most colourful feather was added to the crown of the department in the session 2019-20. This is nothing but the involvement of the faculty members with research activities in diverse fields of Chemistry under the Research Centre in Natural Sciences of the College.
