Mr. Pralay Sankar Adhikari
The department of Sanskrit is one of the oldest department of our college and posseses a good academic record. Sanskrit is not just a language. It is the voice of India's soul and wisdom. It is the fountainhead of our national life spring. Sanskrit is the only subject which enriches and nourishes the innermost beauties and qualities of human beings to reach the highest and utmost desirable goal of our life. With this object in view the department of Sanskrit, Prabhat Kumar College, Contai is always ready to gear up the students to achieve the best possible outcome and make them well established and good citizens in our society by providing a caring and understanding ambience. Knowledge of Sanskrit and understanding analysis of contents of our ancient Sanskrit literature like Vedas and later literature would be of great help in getting a better insight into our rich scientific heritage. The spiritual richness of ancient India was amply demonstrated by the sanskrit-scholars. But there is always a tendency of overemphasizing this aspect. Many orientalist scholars have been tempted to present India as a country of spiritualism along with hardly any interest in matters secular. But we must see that such a characterization of our tradition constitutes a gross oversight of facts. The highest advantage of Sanskrit is that it opens up our mind to thousands of year old knowledge on practically any subject in this planet including technology, spirituality, languages, religion, philosophy, mathematics, engineering, science etc. India is glorified by the mines of knowledge embedded in the Vedas and Post vedic sanskrit - literature.
The view-point expressed by the department is that a sanskrit based compiler or interpreter may have to be developed to unearth the hidden treasures in sanskrit technical literature by learning - teaching and realising the moral values of life. Other countries in the West also, of late, have undertaken similar studies and it would only be appropriate if sanskrit gets the type of recognition that is so richly deserves in its own land even in areas of advanced technological research for which it is undoubtedly suited intrinsically. Hope from the deliberation of entire departmental faculties we will be able to build up a balanced view of our tradition which is as much materialist as it is idealist.
