The Department introduced Samar Sen Memorial Lecture from 2016 to pay homage to the legendary modern Bengali poet, translator & editor Samar Sen on his birth centenary, who was the teacher of the department of English in 1940. The inaugural Samar Sen Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. Amiya Deb of Jadavpur University on 17 January 2017. Prof Deb released a monogram SHATABARSHE SAMAR SEN, compiled by Nilratan Sarkar, Assistant professor, on that day. This Yearly lecture was given by Prof Ramkrishna Bhattacharya (2017), Prof Bimal Kumar Mukhopadhyay (2018), Prof Sukanta Chaudhuri (2019) and Prof Sudipta Kaviraj (2020) in the following years. A monogram named ‘Samar Sen Smarak Baktrita 2016-18’ was released by Prof. Sukanta Chaudhuri on the day of 4th Samar Sen Memorial Lecture (2019), contained with previous three lectures and the relevant articles. This memorial Lecture is the first memorial lecture of this Century-old institution.
